Larry Dale Smith, 78 of Hot Springs, Ark., went to be with Jesus on Thursday, June 8, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born to the late Arlie and Jennie Lynn Smith.
He was married to the love of his life Sheila (Harp) Smith on Aug. 7, 1964. They were married 58 wonderful years.
He was a loving husband, father, papa and great papa. He played basketball and was a baseball pitcher for Lake Hamilton School. Graduating in the class of 1962.
He became a Christian at an early age and through the years ministered to hundreds of children and adults. He was a children's church pastor, bus captain, Sunday School teacher and Deacon. He was a member of Glory Bound Baptist Church. He was a man of many talents. He retired from Lake Hamilton School district as a State Commissioned Security Officer. He loved his job and working with the kids. After his family he loved gardening, especially with flowers, he was so proud of them.
He was predeceased by his parents, seven brothers, one of which was his twin, Gary Smith, as well as son-in-law, Tony Wharton.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila Smith, daughter, Renee Heller (Roger); son, Todd Smith ( girlfriend, Christina) ;one brother, Truman (Ruth) Smith of Cape Girardeau, Mo; sister-in laws, Brenda Smith, Hazel Smith, Arlene Cevela, Helen Holley and brother-in-law, Gary Harp; grandchildren, Melani (Mike) Garner; Matt (Liz) Wharton; Connor Smith; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Anthony and Adalyn Wharton. Many nephews and nieces and greats whom he loved among close friends, Sam Folsom, Alex and Donna Smith, Darrel and Karen Snodgrass.
The visitation will be held from 3 - 5pm on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at Smith Family Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 11am on Monday, June 12, 2023 at the funeral home with Bro. Bernard Rusert officiating. Burial to follow at Oakgrove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Todd Smith, Connor Smith, Matt Wharton, Roger Heller, Mike Garner and Tim Smith.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Jeffrey Tauth, Dr. Mark Lefler, Dr. Joe and Cheryl Howe, ICU and 2nd floor nurses at CHI and the members of Glory Bound Baptist Church.
