Lafayette Austin, 82, of North Little Rock died Dec. 20, 2011. He was born in Woodson, AR to the late Wylie Austin, Sr. and the late Annie Hampton Austin on March 14, 1929. He served in the U.S. Army and was a retired master painter.
Lafayette was preceded in death by a sister, Delphine Montgomery; three brothers: Wylie Austin, Jr., Orr Austin and Robert Austin, Sr.; and a son, Lafayette Austin, Jr. Survivors include his wife, Doris Hampton Austin of North Little Rock; children: Tommy Lee (Wanda) Austin of Woodson, Steven J. (Kacy) Austin of Dallas, Katie Austin of North Little Rock, Kenya Jones of Little Rock, Eric Conley of Dallas, Scotty L. Austin of Detroit and Ramone Austin of California; eight grandchildren; three sisters: Mable Austin of Woodson, Daisy May Blackmon of Shannon Hills and Alverne Smith of Woodson; mother-in-law, Lendora Nevels, step-son, Daniel Nevels and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at North Little Rock Funeral Home with Brother Robert St. Claire officiating. Burial will follow in the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
