Kitty Sue Fullerton Land died on Saturday, August 22, 2020 after a lengthy battle with lymphoma. Her family was by her side until the end. The world is a bit less kind, less modest, humble, and graceful without her in it.
Born on August 9, 1946 in Shreveport, Louisiana, Kitty was the youngest of four children born to Ray Word Fullerton and Minnie Bell Taylor Fullerton. She graduated from Byrd High School in Shreveport in 1964 and then went on to receive a BA in Commercial Art from Louisiana Tech University in 1968.
On March 2, 1968, Kitty married Garland Victor “G.V.” Land, Jr. in Shreveport. They grew up down the street from each other, road the bus to school together, and eventually went to Tech together. She loved G.V. very much and was so proud of the life they built together. In 1969 they moved to the central Arkansas area, where they remained. Over the years they made homes together in Little Rock and in Benton. She worked for the Pulaski County Special School District and the Little Rock School District as the Secretary of Baseline Elementary, the Transportation Department Secretary, and as a Purchasing Agent for the LRSD Purchasing Department before retiring in 2005.
Since retiring, she has enjoyed traveling with G.V. and spending time with her kids and grandchildren. She also returned to her love of art and created many beautiful watercolor pieces while furthering her skill under the direction of Dianne Roberts in Benton, Arkansas. Her art pieces hang in her home and her children’s homes and will continue to be treasured for years to come.
Kitty was most proud of her two children and the families they have each made. Her son Jeremy Ray Land of Vilonia is married to Marie Land and has three children: Megan Katura, Rachel Michelle, and Benjamin Ray. Her daughter Anna Katura Land Curry of Fate, Texas is married to Alan Curry and has three children: Nathaniel John (wife Dorian Rae), Noah Samuel, and Hallie Belle. She felt so blessed that her children and grandchildren were near during her final days and expressed how proud she was of each one of them and how much she loved them.
Kitty was preceded in death by her parents and her oldest brother, Ray Word Fullerton, Jr. Her brothers William “Bill” Taylor Fullerton and Joseph Michael “Mike” Fullerton loved their little sister and will continue to treasure the wonderful memories they have of her.
Kitty’s faith in the Resurrection was strong and we all know that we will see her again one day. The family will be honoring the memory of Kitty by holding a Celebration of Life later this year. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Saline Memorial Hospice in Benton, Arkansas or to CARTI in Bryant, Arkansas.
