Kathryn "Katy" Louise Phillips

Kathryn "Katy" Louise Phillips, a beacon of love and kindness, departed from this world on February 25, 2025, in North Little Rock, Arkansas, surrounded by her devoted family and friends. She was born on November 3, 1943, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Katy's journey through life was characterized by her unwavering dedication to her family and her rich contributions to her community.

Katy's educational path began with her graduation from South High School in Minneapolis, followed by her receipt of a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from the University of Minnesota in 1966. She nurtured her passion for learning and service throughout her career as a substitute teacher, as well as running a charming bookstore and dedicating 24 years at Dillard's, where she made her mark in the Bridal Registry and China Department. Yet, perhaps her most significant role was that of a loving wife and mother. Katy took great pride in raising her two children and fulfilling her role as a U.S. Air Force wife, creating a loving home full of warmth and laughter.

Her personality shone through in every aspect of her life. Known for her kindness, care, and a smile that could light up a room, Katy had a remarkable sense of humor that endeared her to all. She was an exceptional cook, celebrated for her culinary skills, particularly her amazing burritos. Katy’s love for food extended beyond the kitchen; she found joy in cooking, sewing, gardening, and growing beautiful flowers, creating a nurturing environment not just for her family, but for everyone who crossed her path.

Katy's life was enriched by her love for travel, as she sought to explore the beauty of the country and immerse herself in new experiences. Among her proudest accomplishments was her service as an Elder for six years at Park Hill Presbyterian Church in North Little Rock, where she touched the lives of many and exemplified her deep faith and commitment to community service.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 57 years, James M. Phillips, her loving daughter Roxanne Lee Deanne, and her son William "Bill" Eric Phillips. She was a devoted sister to Virginia McClure (Jerry) and sister-in-law to Donna Magdanz. Katy was also the proud grandmother of Nicole Burns, Christiana Dominguez, Ben Henley, and Zach Henley, as well as a loving great-grandmother to three great grandchildren.

Katy was preceded in death by her brothers, Eric Magdanz and James Magdanz, and her grandson, Thomas Jacob Phillips. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit lives on through the countless lives she impacted.

The visitation will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 6:00 PM at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home (1921 Main Street).
