After an eventful and impactful life of over 75 years, Kathleen Joy Cardinal of Hot Springs, Arkansas lost a valiant medical battle and joined God on March 13, 2025. She is greatly missed by those of us left behind but it is a joy to know that she is reunited with her husband, Harry Cardinal of San Antonio, Texas; parents, Ruth Helen and Elliott James Brewer of San Antonio, Texas; and her brother Elliott Clark Brewer of New York City, New York. Kathleen is survived by her sister, Margaret M. Beyer of Lubbock, Texas.
Kathleen was born on December 30, 1948 in San Antonio, Texas. She was always a dedicated worker and determined individual. She began her career at Lackland Air Force Base Food Services after starting at the bottom as a cafeteria line server to become the head chef for almost 20 years. Her cooking skills were legendary. She retired and married Harry Cardinal, a veteran. Soon after, Kathleen became a talented gardener who grew and nurtured over 150 rose bushes on her own property along with other flowers and plants. Her yard was a showcase of beauty and peace. After Harry’s death, she spent time in Mississippi and finally ended up in Hot Springs, Arkansas which she grew to love and eventually called home after making numerous dear friends. She was a passionate gardener. She was a member of the Garland County Master Gardeners and the Ouachita Hosta and Shade Plant Society. She gave talks on roses and propagation to both groups as well as other garden clubs.
Kathleen will always be fondly remembered for her spicy humor, “words of wisdom,” beautiful smile and love of dogs, especially Annie who was a faithful companion.
