Junior, lovingly known as Pap or Papa to most, embraced and cherished many roles during his time on this earth—son, brother, father, husband, uncle, friend, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. However, no role brought him more joy or honor than being a follower of Jesus. Junior’s unwavering faith and servant’s heart reflected the love of Jesus in all he did, touching countless lives with his kindness, generosity, and infectious smile.
A devoted deacon of Valley Church for 65 years, Junior faithfully served his community with love and humility, playing a significant role in the children’s ministry.
He retired after a long and accomplished career as a skilled Timber Forester, a profession that reflected his deep love for the land and the resources God entrusted to him.
An avid outdoorsman, Junior found joy in spending time on the water, fishing late into the night with anyone willing to brave the all-nighters. He also loved riding through the woods on his side-by-side or sitting in a deer stand, surrounded by the family and friends he cherished.
Junior’s love of music was a gift to everyone around him. He sang for many years in the church and delighted in picking his guitar, especially when playing the old worship hymns.
Junior’s legacy of faith, family, his love for the great outdoors, and his servant's heart will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Though his absence leaves a void for those of us not yet in the presence of God, the countless memories of Pap remind us of the blessings that come with fellowship with God and the love of a family. We have no doubt that Pap was welcomed into the arms of Jesus hearing the words he waited for his whole life, “well done my good and faithful servant."
He was preceded in death by his parents; his three sisters; his brother; and his daughter, Cheryl King.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Kate King; his two sons, Bobby King and Greg King; his six grandchildren; his twelve great-grandchildren; his five great-great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of wonderful friends.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Robby King, Corey King, Chris Lee, Chad King, Drake King, and Noah Ellis.
