Judith Lee Schuck Dyke, age 72, of Maumelle, formerly of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away June 23, 2019 at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Judy was born July 9, 1946 in Shenandoah, Iowa to Ernie and Virginia (Golden) Schuck.
In kindergarten, she attended country school until March, then on to Sidney for grade school and graduated from Sidney High School in 1964. During grade school and junior high, she participated in Brownies and Girl Scouts and enjoyed crafts, activities and learning new things. She was awarded patches for landscaping and gardening. She took dance lessons and acrobatics. During overnight slumber parties, she and her friends would make divinity fudge and taffy. They also went to Shenandoah and had fun roller skating.
While a freshman in high school, she won a trophy in a dance contest between students from Sidney and Fremont Mills. She was also on the Homecoming Court that year and enjoyed playing on the basketball team. During her senior year, she was Snow Queen of the Christmas Dance. During summer breaks from school, she earned money detasseling corn and ushering at the Sidney Rodeo. She was a member of the Methodist Church and attended MYF.
Growing up on three farms, she and her sister enjoyed helping their parents with yard work. They moved to town during her freshman year.
Judy met Kieth Dyke on July 4, 1963 in Malvern, Iowa. They were married September 4, 1965 and to this union one daughter, Shelley, was born in December, 1966. Judy worked at Tip Top to earn money to attend Barnes Beauty School where she earned a cosmetology degree. She worked in Council Bluffs, Iowa as a beautician for 23 years, then became self-employed at Crystal Comb and Beauty Emporium.
During her daughter's growing up in Iowa, Judy never missed an opportunity to attend Shelley's piano, band, cheerleading, pompom and dance events. She even designed and made the cheerleading outfits for the 8th grade squad.
In January of 1989, Judy and Kieth moved to Maumelle due to Kieth's job transfer. From 1990-2000, she worked at Champs Sporting Goods. In 2000-2001 she attended Baptist School of Nursing where she earned a degree in Histotechnology.
Judy was ambitious, warm and kind, and a joy to be around. She was creative, enjoying cake decorating, oil painting, sewing, landscaping, designing Christmas trees, and making flower arrangements. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Karen Bowen, her infant brother, Joey Schuck, her stepfather, Mervin Liesemeyer, and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Vivian and Willard Dyke. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Kieth Dyke, her daughter, Shelley Dyke, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 29 from 1-3 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home. Services will be held at Crawford-Marshall Funeral Home in Sidney, Iowa, with burial at Tabor Cemetery in Tabor, Iowa.
