Juanita Brown
Juanita Rachaner Brown's work is done here. Ms. Brown passed on August 22, 2017 in Little Rock at the age of 86 after a thirteen year battle with Alzheimer's. Her grandparents emigrated from Austria and she was born to her parents, John and Johanna Rachaner on April 10, 1931 in the little community of "New Dixie" in Bigelow, Arkansas. She grew up there, attending St. Boniface Catholic Church and School.
Ms. Brown raised four children while working outside the home. She had a strong work ethic which kept her busy from sunrise to sundown. She would always remind us that, "God isn't going to do it all, you have to help yourself!" She stayed busy with three boys on the ball fields at Lamar Porter and Curran Conway and her daughter at Junior Deputy. She would take her children and their friends camping at Sugar Loaf Mountain and Three Sisters. There are so many wonderful memories from the ball fields and camping trips.
Ms. Brown was a soft-spoken lady and shy to a fault. The one question posed to her frequently was, "How did you raise three boys and a girl and never raise your voice?"
Her last job was with the Arkansas State Treasurer's Office in Little Rock. There she worked under two State Treasurers, Nancy Hall and Jimmie Lou Fischer. She was the warrant supervisor and was very conscientious and proud of what she did. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling, the Arkansas Garden Club and spending time with her family and friends. In early 2000, she moved to Hot Springs to a condo on Lake Hamilton. It was her special place for two years before she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.
Ms. Brown is survived by three sons, Gary Brown of Houston, Texas, Jack Brown (Jill) of Littleton, Colorado and Mike Brown of Clinton, Arkansas; daughter, Becky Tyrrell (Brent) of Little Rock; four grandchildren, Hannah, Jared, Garrett and Heather; two step-grandchildren, Michelle and Jennifer; and six great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Brandon, Casey, Hudson, Liam and Ruairi. She also leaves behind her dear sisters, Dorothy Shaffron, Henrietta Fischer, Shirley Sormani, and her brother, Gene Rachaner.
Her family wishes to thank her Arkansas Hospice nurse, Vickie McElrath, and the staff at Hickory Heights Nursing and Rehab for their compassionate care.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Christ the King Catholic Church in Little Rock on Friday, August 25 at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial at St. Boniface Cemetery at New Dixie (Bigelow). Memorials may be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Arkansas.
