Joyce Thompson - beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend - died on February 20th, 2018 after a brave fight with cancer.
She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, James Terral Thompson. She is survived by her daughter, Christy Jean Cotten and son-in-law, Martin Cotten (Spring Hill, TN), her daughter, Terri Lee Fulton and son-in-law, Gary Fulton (Dallas, TX). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Stephen James Cotten and Misty Michelle Cotten, and her brothers, Clyde S. Matheny, Jr. and Melvin Lee Matheny.
Joyce was born in Maxwell, Arkansas on July 3, 1931, to Jewel and Clyde S. Matheny, who adored and supported her all their days together.
Her home the gathering spot, she made everyone's favorite dishes at every holiday. In the mornings, her short-order kitchen was kept hopping as she doted on each one at her table. Singing happy ditties, she cooked eggs, bacon, and toast as many times as the number of guests she had that morning.
She fretted over any challenge faced by her offspring, praying all of them through their growth times. She read constantly, loved to paint, got a kick out of winning at video poker, and was known for her fabulous cakes. She walked every morning, regularly enjoyed her bingo group, senior aerobics classes, and many activities at Park Hill Baptist Church. We will pine for her laugh, especially those really hard ones that made her cry.
We ask that you join us in remembering her life at Park Hill Baptist Church on Saturday, February 24th, at 10:30am. Friends and family are invited to her home at 12:00pm on the day of the funeral. Donations in her name to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation or to the charity of your choice would be a meaningful tribute.
