Joyce Schneider

Joyce Schneider, 77, of Sherwood, wonderful mother and grandmother, passed away January 7, 2011 after a lengthy illness. She was born in 1933 in Little Rock to Elsie Woodyard Mercier and John E. Bailey.

St. Mary Academy, she then attended and graduated from North Little Rock High School. She received her BSE from UCA and her MEd from the University of Arkansas. She was a member of Phi Delta Kappa and Delta Kappa Gamma, many professional educator groups. Joyce served in leadership roles on both the state and national levels, including president of AAVA, DSMS, AASL/ME and a past member of the ECT Foundation Board. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Strong in her faith, Joyce loved her children and her friends, but saved her best for her grandchildren, who loved her deeply and gave her so much joy. She was known for her warmth, kindness and generosity. She faced her illness with strength and determination and a smile that rarely wavered.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Hubert Schneider, and a sister. She is survived by daughter, Carol Schneider; daughter, Laura Schneider Gately and husband John; and son, Stephen Schneider; two grandchildren, Catharina Renee Gately and Johnny Gately; a brother, Joe Mercier, Jr.; nieces; nephews; cousins and many friends.
