Josephine Avery, 72, passed away March 20, 2018. She was born on August 6, 1945 in Portland, Arkansas to the late John and Mildred Mosby Johnson. Our Mom was a beautiful individual, both inside and out. She was very talented, yet very simple. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and cleaning. She also loved cooking, and was very good at it! Later in life she found that she had a knack for free-hand pencil drawings, when she decided to draw a picture of our dad while he was asleep on the couch. She surprised herself at how well it came out and later progressed to oil paintings.
Above all of those things she absolutely delighted in talking to people about the Bible. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1969. She faithfully served Jehovah for 48 years of which 40 of those years she spent as a full-time pioneer. She spoke with anyone who would listen about the Bible and she truly had a beautiful tone to her ministry. As she engaged in all of these activities she assisted our father in raising six children. Throughout her lifetime she made many good friends with whom she thoroughly enjoyed visiting. In her heart is where she carried her relationships with Jehovah, her family, and all of her friends. She looked forward to the time when they would never end. What a time that will be!
Preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ester Avery, and son, Larry Avery, she is survived by five children, John Avery and Shel Smith, both of Little Rock, Arkansas, Tony Avery (Janice) of Garland, TX, Delores Woods (Gregory) of Lakeland, TN, and Janet Paige (John Paige Jr) of Little Rock, AR; eight grandchildren, Rikayla Trotter, Courtney Smith, Jamari Avery; Ariel Avery, J'Kayla Paige, Jalayla Avery, Anderson Avery, and John Paige III (Tre'); one great-grandchild, Mariah Trent; and a host of nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends that she hopes to be reunited with in the very near future.
