Joseph J. "Papa Joe" Knapp

Joseph J. "Papa Joe" Knapp, age 84, of Glenwood, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2017. He was born on June 6, 1932, in Linden, Iowa the son of Carl Knapp and Jennie Porter Knapp. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Frances Pope; and his grandson, Grady Jones. He was a United States Army veteran, having served in Korea and was a Christian in his faith. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching and was an avid animal lover. Papa Joe truly loved his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of his world. He will be deeply missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Pope of Glenwood; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Carol Pope of Glenwood; two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and David Rodriguez and Beverly and James Wells, all of Garland, Texas; six grandchildren, Daniel Humphries, Audrey Michelle Pope, Mike Pope, Jr. and his wife, Tiffany, Mark Jones and his wife, Diane, Karla Roach and her husband, Eddie, and Joseph Rodriguez and his wife, Melissa; thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, George and Judy Knapp of Panora, Iowa; two sisters, Dorthea Wristen and Joan Pottroff, both of Panora, Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members; and a host of wonderful friends, as well as many well fed stray animals. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 1, 2017, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Bro. Bobby Lock officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, prior to the services. Interment will be in the Black Springs Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Army honors team. Pallbearers will be Daniel Humphries, Mike Pope, Jr., Joseph Rodriguez, Mark Jones, Marshall Jones and Alex Jordan. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
