Mr. Joseph Bowman passed away on Friday, January 30, 2009. He was born on January 28, 1949 in Texarkana, Arkansas.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents Talbert F. Bowman, Jr and Cornelia Price Bowman, and grandparents, Bayless and Agnes (Clark) Price and Talbert and Nell (Goodwin) Bowman.
Survivors include a sister - Celeste B. Crittenden-Anthony (Bruce Anthony) and a brother - Talbert F. Bowman, III (Billie), nephews - Jeff Crittenden (Karen), Allen Anthony (Carrie), Charles Anthony (Melanne) Nieces - Lisa Crittenden, Carey Harris (Mike), Mindy Coburn (Terry), Hannah Standifer (Kelly), Georgia Winstead (James) In addition to those named are; great aunts, a great uncle, grand nieces and nephews and lots of cousins
Joe was employed by Kroger and spent many years at the McCain store making an abundance of friends and associates through the years. He made people smile and his thoughtful nature caused him to be loved by friends, relatives and co-workers. In 2007, Joe was given a "Certificate of Achievement" by Goodwill Industries of Arkansas, Inc. for maintaining 26 years of competitive employment with Kroger and the previous store owners.
Joe was an avid Arkansas Razorback fan. He was happy that his grand niece, Brittany Crittenden, was a student at UA-Fayetteville and could talk to him about the football team. His tape and CD collection included the fight song and other Razorback band music. Joe had an enormous hat pin collection. Friends and relatives brought him pins from all over the world. He was well known for his baseball type hats covered with these pins. Joe loved to draw pictures and took delight in presenting these pictures to special people in his life.
The family wishes to thank the employees of Kroger who offered comfort to Joe during his work days and to Joe's family after his passing. Special thanks is also sent to the many people who "gave Joe a ride" when he was too tired or the weather was too bad to walk to or from work.
Joe was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church. A memorial service for Joe will be held at Westover Hills Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, AR at 1 p.m. on February 7, 2009. Dr. Debra Freeman will be leading the service.
