Johnny Jenkins

Johnny Jenkins, age 57, of Glenwood, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014. He was born on March 3, 1957, in Nashville, the son of John "Jack" Jenkins and Aline Smith Jenkins. On July 25, 1975, he was married to Glenda Tomlinson Jenkins. He was preceded in death by his mother; his nephew, Deric Diggs; and his brother-in-law, LaRay Williamson. Johnny was a 1975 graduate of Kirby High School and a logger. He started his own logging business and operated it as Johnny Jenkins Trucking for 27 years. He then worked for the Pike County Road Department before taking early retirement after being diagnosed with Multiple System Atrophy. He was a member of the Glenwood camp of Gideon's International and a member and deacon of Glenwood First Baptist Church, where he served faithfully by teaching Sunday school, driving the van and working with the youth. Johnny enjoyed the outdoors and liked to golf, hunt, fish, ride four wheelers, motorcycles and was an accomplished water skier. He adored his family and loved to watch his grandchildren play sports. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Jenkins; his daughters and son-in-law, Stacy and Brian Cowart and Becky Jenkins; his grandchildren, Colton Cowart and Emily Cowart; his father, Jack Jenkins; his sisters and brother-in-law, Jackie Williamson and Barbara and Kenny Hayslette, all of Glenwood; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 19, 2014, in the Glenwood First Baptist Church with Bro. Phillip Miller, Bro. Jim Freeman and Bro. Erby Burgess officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Bill West, Joe Floyd Wright, Jim Hicks, Alan Moore, Larry Mitchell, Paul Peppers, Dale Adams and David Blackmon. Honorary pallbearers will be Robbie Funderburk, Billy Cogburn, Dr. Martin Koehn, and the nurses and staff of Arkansas Hospice. Memorials may be made to the Gideon's International, P.O.
