Johnny William Benson, age 77, of Princeton, LA, passed away Monday, October 18, 2021, in Shreveport, LA. He was born August 19, 1944, to Alexander and Flora Mae (Hurst) Benson in the old Arkadelphia Hospital in Clark County, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his father, Alex Benson; and mother, Flora Mae (Hurst) Lee; two sisters, Alex Zenia Hartsock, Patsy Harrell; an infant brother; and a nephew, Billy Alexander Benson, Jr.
Johnny retired from the US Army as Sergeant First Class, and was a Vietnam veteran. Johnny worked for Bossier Parish Highway Department until 2007 when he found out he had cancer the first time. He was CEO at Honey Do List until his passing.
Johnny had a passion for older cars and working on them and restoring them to their glory days and going to car shows. He was currently working on a car he named Buster. He was a member of the Corvette club, and Ride Captain at Patriot Guard Riders.
Johnny was a family man and loved spending time with this family, especially his brother Billy, and traveling to different places. He also loved woodworking and his fur babies.
Johnny is survived by his wife of 22 years, Nancy Chisholm Benson; his children: Pam Benson Price of VA, Diane Benson McGrath of PA, Ron Ritter of CA, Glen Hankins of AR, John Benson and wife Lindsay of SC; stepchildren: Shauna Smith and husband of John of LA, and Tony Mayard of LA; his siblings: Ruby Mills and husband Roy of Oklahoma City, OK, Billy Benson, Sr. and wife Madeline Benson of Arkadelphia, and Margaret Hooper of Midwest City, OK; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and multiple nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral service will be 12:00PM Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home, 517 Clay St, Arkadelphia, AR. Burial to follow at Center Ridge Cemetery in Okolona. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
