John "Tom" Conrad Ison, Jr., 90, of North Little Rock passed away Thursday, October 6, 2011. He was born December 7, 1920 at home in Pulaski County, Arkansas. He was in the Army Air Corp during World War II, serving in Guam and was a Bronze Star recipient. He was a member of Local 155 of the Plumber and Pipefitters Union since 1942, where he was a welder and pipefitter while employed at Westinghouse in Little Rock and was a 50 year member of Sylvan Hills Masonic Lodge #754. He was an avid gardener and outdoorsman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John C. Ison, Sr. and Florence E. Ison; brother, George R. Ison and sister, Emogene Brothers. He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Ophelia (Lanford) Ison; three children, Jerry Ison (Lynn), Judy Harlan (Dale) and Randy Ison (Marie); brothers, Ross Ison, Jack Ison, Jimmie Ison (Evelyn); sister, Jamie Harrell (Leo); five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous friends and extended family.
A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday at Gravel Ridge Cemetery with Pastor Tim Reed officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St., 758-1170. Online obituary and guest registry at
