John Sims

John Adrian Sims, 84, of Austin went to be with the Lord on Saturday night, December 21, 2019.  He was the son of the late Rueben and Gussie Sims of Edwards, Mississippi where he was born at home. He was preceded in death by his two sisters Dovie Crawford and Jean Allen, and one brother Thomas Sims.

He served at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, where he worked in the pre-school Sunday School class for over 41 years.  He was a proud member of teamster union local 878 and worked in the freight industry for 29 years. He loved his family dearly, loved to laugh, and loved little children.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth A. (Leta) Sims; his daughter, Jacquelyn and her husband Joe Trusty of Cabot; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Arkansas or Mt. Carmel Baptist Preschool Dept.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 26, 2019, followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.  Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.  Arrangements by Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home.  www.smithfamilycares.com
