John Pounders,

John Henry Pounders, Jr., 86, passed away September 7, 2011. Born December 17, 1924 in Malvern to John Henry Pounders, Sr. and Susie Bullock Pounders, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Pulaski Heights Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon and served on the Board.
John retired from the Baptist Health Medical System, where he had been the Public Relations Director since 1971. He served on the board of the Visiting Nurses Association and was a member of the West Little Rock Rotary Club and the Arkansas Advertising Federation.
Preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 60 years, Betty Tatum Pounders, he is survived by his son, Michael Pounders (Debbie) of Hot Springs; daughters, Robin Miller (Ken) of West Memphis and Joanie Skinner (James) of Newnan, Georgia; and five granddaughters, Jessica Pounders, Leslie Pounders Loe (Bruce) and Katie Pounders, Adele Miller, and Sarah Skinner.
Visitation will be Friday, September 9 from 6-8 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.). Services will be Saturday, September 10 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Michael Pounders. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander. Memorials may be made to Pulaski Heights Baptist Church.
