John Francis Penny, 84, of Little Rock, passed away June 8, 2012. Born in Hoxie, Arkansas to John Rayburn Penny and Mary Theresa Pace, he was in fellowship with Bill W. and Dr. Bob and a member of the 120 ½ Group for 40 years. He was a parishioner of St. Edward's Catholic Church.
Mr. Penny served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the Pacific Island of Majuro. He was a pressman for 43 years, primarily employed by the Arkansas Democrat. He was also a strong union supporter and served as President of Allied Printing Trades Council and was an elected officer with Central Arkansas Labor Council. Mr. Penny will be remembered most for his volunteer efforts in service to others, including the Little Rock Civil Defense Auxiliary Police.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia Jean Harris Penny; daughter, Mary Margaret Pepper; and son, Joseph Christopher Penny. He is survived by his children, Mark Arnold Penny (Reva) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; John Douglas Penny (Lisa) of Arlington, Texas; Frances Pace Grasby (Richard) of Little Rock; Guy Michael Penny of Little Rock; Bruce Edward Penny of Seattle, Washington; Teresa Elaine Penny of Little Rock; and David Gerard Penny (Laura) of Springdale; sister, Rose Catherine Martin of Los Angeles, California; sixteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Jason Tyler at St. Edward's Catholic Church, 801 Sherman St., Little Rock, on Monday, June 11 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander. Visitation will be Sunday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the Church.
Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation or the American Diabetes Association.
