John L. Nolen, Jr., 84, of Romance, Arkansas, was born January 15, 1926, and he died Sunday, April 11, 2010. He served in the 187th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division during WWII from 1944 until he was wounded in 1945 on Luzon Island as a paratrooper.
John L. worked as superintendent of H. C. Price Construction for thirty-three years laying pipe in every state in the United States except one. He also was involved in this work in Holland, Iceland, Iran and South America.
He shared his love of the gospel through his music wherever he went - from prisons to "The Grand Ole Opry". He was a Baptist and a very wonderful person to help anyone who came his way. His personality and big smile won him many friends. John L. was never without a smile on his face or a song in his heart. He also loved to be outdoors hunting and fishing. His love was as large as the great outdoors for family and friends. We love him and we will miss him every day.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine, his parents, John L. and Flora Nolen and one brother, Tom King.
John is survived by one son, John L. Nolen, III and wife Nicole of Vilonia; one daughter, Johnnie Cook and husband Rodney of Conway; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ola Hutto of Conway and Ila Fowlkes of Austin.
