John Hunter Fincher was born in Amity, Arkansas on July 6, 1934 and died in Little Rock on October 24, 2011. He was the son of Fayette and Alsia Hunter Fincher. He was a lifelong Methodist and a member of St. James United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Hollye Fincher Young, sister, Joyce Wilson and brother-in-law, Lee Roy Bean. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Hildred Bean Fincher of Little Rock; son, Hunter Fincher and wife, Susan of Monticello; sisters, Martha Adams of Amity, Melba Gunta (Steve) of Glenwood, Jo Dobson and Trudy Walker (Loyd), both of Little Rock; brother, Charles Fincher (Jacque) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; sisters-in-law, Bobbye Doughty (Sam) of Texarkana, Arkansas and Dora Lea Bean of Amity; five grandchildren, Ryan Fincher, Jarred Fincher, Megan Young, Ashlye Young and Jessica Young; and many nieces and nephews.
John earned his BSE degree from Henderson State Teachers College, MSE from Arkansas State University and had post graduate hours from the University of Tennessee in Memphis. John Fincher was an educator! He touched many lives as he served as an administrator in Parkin, Monticello, Newport and Crossett, Arkansas. He served several years as Deputy Director of the Arkansas State Department of Education and also served as interim director of the Math and Science School in Hot Springs. John was involved in many civic and education organizations.
Services will be held on Wednesday, October 26 at 10:00 a.m. at St. James United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Siegfried Johnson, followed by interment at 2:00 p.m. at Jones Cemetery in Amity. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.).
