John Joseph Cychol, Jr., 82, of North Little Rock, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2009. Born January 9, 1927 in Tuscola, Illinois, he was the son of John J. and Stella Cwalina Cychol. He was a member of the 1943 Illinois High School Championship Basketball Team from Paris, Illinois, graduating in 1945. He attended Bradley University, graduated from Purdue University and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II.
John lived in Peoria and worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 37 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Illinois High School Basketball Hall of Fame, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Pi Tau Sigma Honorary Mechanical Engineering Fraternity. He was also an Honorary Member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. John was an avid golfer and fisherman and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Joan Eileen Cychol; son, John Joseph Cychol III and wife, Nancy of Southlake, Texas; daughters, Cathi Shea and husband, Jim of Dyersburg, Tennessee, Carol Wrape and husband, Bill and Patricia Hayes, both of Little Rock, and Judith VanPelt of Benton; an aunt, Alyce Prentice of Ashburnham, Massachusetts; and grandchildren, Ryan Cychol, Nicholas Cychol, Connor Wrape, Josie Wrape, Franz Hayes, Colin Hayes and Caleb VanPelt. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, John Joseph Cychol IV.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 5 from 5-7 p.m., followed by the Rosary, led by Monsignor R. Scott Friend, at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), Little Rock. The Funeral Mass will be said by Father Salvador Marquez-Munoz on Friday, February 6 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Edward's Catholic Church, 801 Sherman St., Little Rock. Interment in Mt. Holly Cemetery will take place on Saturday, February 7 at 1:00 p.m.
