John L. Pershing Barger, of Little Rock, passed away at his home on Monday, June 16, 2008. He was born December 17, 1919 to Albert and Ava Barger, and had five brothers and one sister. John was a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Marguerite Mathis Barger; son, John William Barger and his wife, Linda; and one grandson, John Mathis Barger.
John was the owner of Barger Industrial Traffic Service and Mechanical Fisher until he semi-retired and turned the business over to his son. He continued to work side-by-side with his son until he was 88 years old.
The family will receive friends today from 12-1 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), Little Rock. The Graveside Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander, officiated by Mr. Charlie Owen. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice, 5600 W. 12th St., Little Rock, AR 72204.
