John D. Baker, 85, of Sherwood passed away Friday, January 19, 2007. He was born August 4, 1921 to the late Reverend and Mrs. John D. Baker in Warren Arkansas.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Allen Baker of Sherwood; son, Doug (June) Baker of Austin, Texas; daughter, Dana Pennington of Sherwood; sister-in-law, Mary Anne Baker of North Little Rock; four granddaughters, Tristin (Todd) Lumsden, Krista (Brian) Duffy, Sari Baker, Jill (Michael) Stern; one grandson, Neil (Crystal) Pennington. He was blessed with nine great-grandchildren with the tenth great-grandchild due in March. He is also survived by many special nieces, nephews and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his brother, Joe R. Baker and son-in-law, Royce Pennington.
He retired as a Lt. Col. in 1969 from the United States Air Force. He was a Command Pilot having served with the Tactical Air Command, Military Airlift Command, and the Air Training Command. He also served as a decorated fighter pilot with the 414th Night Fighter Squadron in Corsica and Sicily, during World War II.
John cherished the time spent with his family and especially Carolyn his loving wife of fifty-nine years. They enjoyed traveling with their many friends and were active in the Good Sam Club. He was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of North Little Rock.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Wednesday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel, Reverend Don Nolley officiating. Committal service will be held at 2:30 P.M. in Ozan Cemetery in Bingen near Nashville, Arkansas. Arrangements by North Little Rock Funeral Home 1921 Main St., 758-1170.
