Joel Glenn Dubose Jr.

Joel Glenn DuBose Jr. Age 76 left our world to be with his Lord and savior on April 4, 2020. Joel, known as “Grandad” to his grandkids Mark, Bryan, Zoe, Gabriella, and Maggie was born November 9, 1943 in Garner, Arkansas and called Higden, Arkansas his home. Joel was well traveled and had lived all around the United States, as well as South East Asia, Italy and, the island of Guam during his life and career. In addition to his grandchildren, Joel is survived by his wife Frances and daughters Angela, Mistye, Pamela, and Shannon. He is also survived by his sister, Connie Hensley and brother Tracy Lewis DuBose, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Additionally, Joel left behind his beloved animal companions Cayenne and Gus. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eularuel & Joel DuBose Sr. and his brother Larry.

As a decorated U.S. Marine, having served in two tours of combat operations in Vietnam, Joel was a 27-year career military service veteran. He had a love for his family, fishing, boats, motorcycles, SCUBA diving, fast cars, and the Arkansas Razorbacks.

In his most recent (retirement) years, if you wanted to find Joel, just head to Sugar Loaf Mountain Lake – he’d be there with a fishing rod in his hand or at the helm of a boat. Friends and family of Joel remark on how he was quick with wit and had a penchant for “always being right.”

He had a simple outlook on the problems of life with the expression of “Duct Tape will fix anything.” The hardened and battle-tested Marine had a soft side as well. Family and friends remember him for being generous, kind, and loyal to his family. He had a fierce love for his country, which he defended in some of the worst conditions imaginable. Though his life was cut short, he experienced a full life and loved living.
His greatest love was his family, in particular his bride Frances. She was his “everything” and their relationship was one of storybook romance and adventure. The motto of a Marine is Simper Fidelis (Always Faithful) – Joel recited that phrase as a courageous warrior in battle but also lived its spirit in all aspects of life.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date when social conditions permit. Please leave condolences for Joel's family at www.griffinleggettconway.com Arrangements entrusted to Griffin Leggett Conway Funeral Home, Conway, AR.
