Joe Carlton Moreland, age 76, of Glenwood, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023.
He was born on September 27, 1946, in Pine Bluff, the son of the late Herbert L. Moreland and Clara Frances “Sammye” Young Moreland. On August 14, 1999, he was married to the love of his life, Ellen Hudgins Moreland.
Joe was a graduate of the University of Arkansas and worked for many years as a Mechanical Engineer, until his retirement. He was a faithful member of the Glenwood First Church of the Nazarene. Joe enjoyed spending time on the lake, boating, skiing, camping with his family, and was an avid Razorback fan, loving to follow his “Hogs” in all their sports, always being a faithful fan no matter whether they were winning or losing.
If you were to have asked Joe what his greatest accomplishment in his life was, he would tell you without hesitation, his family, especially his precious grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Grump”. Joe was a wonderful husband, father, Grump, brother, and friend, who had a constant love for God, his family, and his friends. There are so many wonderful memories that Joe has left for his family and friends to hold on to, but one of the most memorable will always be of him and his “big red truck”, if you really knew Joe, then no more words will be needed. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but how lucky we all were to have had the opportunity to have Joe in our lives.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Ellen Moreland; his children, Austin Moreland, Dylan Runyan and Hayden Runyan; his pride and joys, his grandchildren, Avrianna Runyan and Kevin Runyan; his brothers, Herbert L. Moreland, Jr. and his wife, Wanda and Walter C. “Speedy” Moreland and his wife, Dayna, all of El Dorado; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family members; and a host of wonderful friends.
The family will hold a Celebration of Joe’s life on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at 2:00 PM, in the Glenwood First Church of the Nazarene with Bro. Gerald Palmer officiating.
A visitation with the family will be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, Tuesday, prior to the services at the church.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Matthew Hulsey and the nurses and staff of Glenwood Family Medicine.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Joe to the Glenwood First Church of the Nazarene Youth Ministry Fund.
Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home, Glenwood, 209 North Third Street, Glenwood, Arkansas 71943.
