Joe Kuykendall, 68, of Little Rock, died Friday, May 29, 2009 in the comfort of his home. Born August 21, 1940 in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of Kirk (W.J.) and Mary Aspinall Kuykendall, he graduated from the University of Houston, where he was a member of the University's #1 Men's Tennis team.
He began his professional career as the first tennis professional for the Little Rock Country Club. Among his accomplishments, he was the first tennis coach at UALR, ranked #1 Father/Son team in Texas for 1984, and Arkansas Tennis Association Pro of the Year in 1989. He received the USPTA Distinguished Award in 1993 and became a Lifetime Member of both the U. S. Tennis Association and the U.S. Professional Tennis Association.
Preceded in death by his father, he is survived by his mother, Mary Kuykendall; his loving wife, Lisa Kuykendall; his children, John Kuykendall and wife, Laura of Little Rock, Teresa Kuykendall Wells and husband, Stephen of Danville, California and James Kuykendall, also of Little Rock; grandchildren, Madison Kuykendall, Sarah Wells and Katie Wells; brother, Terry Kuykendall, sister, Kathy Kuykendall and step-mother, Anna Kuykendall, all of Naples, Florida.
A Funeral Mass will be said at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 1 at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), Little Rock.
