JoAnn Lewis

JoAnn Turner Lewis, 82, of Benton, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2024, surrounded by her family. Born to the late Jimmy and Lena Bell Turner, JoAnn was predeceased by her parents and beloved friend and soul-sister, Judy Wilson-Schultz. She is survived by her loving husband, Johnny Borden Lewis; children: Cindy Outlaw (Billy) of Bryant, Tracy Bright (David) of Bryant, Jodi Loftis of Benton, Jay Lewis (Patsy) of Benton;  grandchildren: Amber Upton (Todd) of Haskell, Allyson Henson (Brad) of Benton, Lindsey Ross, Christian Outlaw (Marlena) of Colorado Springs, K.W. Roy (Haley) of Benton, Shelby Loftis of Conway, Hayden Roy of Bryant; great-grandchildren: Skyler Upton, Asa Upton, Addison Upton, Alexis Henson, Brady Henson, Ezmie Outlaw, Kasen Roy, Winston Outlaw, Bentley Henson, Kinley Kate Roy, Gibson Outlaw, and Daniel Roy; sister: Nancy Morris of Little Rock; niece: Jennifer Snyder (Cary) of Jonesboro; as well as her faithful fur baby, Pepper.

JoAnn and Johnny married during their senior year at Little Rock Central High, embarking eagerly on life's journey together. Their adventurous spirit led to a memorable double wedding with Al Schultz and Judy Wilson in Hot Springs. The "happily ever after" was just the beginning of a life richly lived, full of family, home, and successful careers.

Cherished memories were created during those early summers spent at the Brady Mountain campgrounds, where laughter and love filled the air. "Keeping her ducks in a row" was more than just a saying for her; it was a deeply held value passed down from her parents, emphasizing the importance of a close-knit, bonded family.

JoAnn dedicated fifty years of her career to AFLAC, forging lasting relationships and serving prestigious clients such as the Arkansas Highway & Transportation Department and Arkansas State Police. With Judy by her side, they excelled, achieving goals and attending state and national conventions in their distinctive “Sally Jessy Raphael” glasses and bouffant hair.

Outside of work, JoAnn deeply treasured her close-knit circle of friends, fondly known as "The Bridge Girls." Their time together was about more than just playing bridge; it was a cherished opportunity to share their lives, embark on adventures, and enjoy countless moments of laughter. Through life's greatest joys and its most challenging times, they forged bonds that felt more like family than mere friendship.

JoAnn's impeccable taste was evident in every aspect of her life. Whether she was meticulously examining items while shopping or decorating her home to perfection, her style was reminiscent of the pages of Southern Living Magazine, creating spaces that were as warm and inviting as she was.

JoAnn's commitment to her community was truly inspiring. At Fellowship Bible Church, she spent over a decade volunteering with toddlers, always sharing her warmth and kindness with the little ones. Her caring nature made a lasting impact on everyone she met.

As a child, JoAnn and Judy were active members of Rainbow Girls, a community service organization. Their bond was unbreakable, and they shared a lifetime of cherished memories together. JoAnn's dedication extended to the Central High Reunion Committee, where she played a pivotal role in reuniting classmates from a class that almost didn't happen due to the Central High crisis. JoAnn herself spent her junior year in Memphis navigating this tumultuous period, only to return in 1959 to complete her senior year and graduate.

Her efforts and caring spirit touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on both her church and her alma mater's community.

JoAnn Turner Lewis will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, unwavering love for her family, and her ability to find joy in every moment. Her legacy of laughter, love, and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew her.

In celebration of JoAnn's life, a visitation will be held Tuesday, July 30th, 2024, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. with a memorial service following at 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Fellowship Bible Church, 5724 Alcoa Rd., Benton, AR 72015.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of JoAnn's memory to AFLAC Cancer and Blood Disorders Center at [give.choa.org/aflacgives].

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Southern Charm Senior Living and Hospice Home Care for their excellent care to JoAnn and her family as she gained her wings.
