Jiri A. Bar, 59, of Sherwood, formerly of Czechoslovakia, passed away in Wye Mountain, Arkansas on February 26, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Becky Bar; daughter, Kayla Bar, both of Sherwood; sons, Antony Bar, Vincent Bar and Frank Bar, all of Pennsylvania; step-children, Kim Wiggins and Bart Doherty; grandchildren, Paige, Taylor, Hannah, Micheal, Vincent and Luke; four brothers of the Czech Republic; and a host of friends.
He was the captain of the 1968 Olympic Hockey Team for Czechoslovakia. Hockey is what gave him his ticket to America. He also trained in the Culinary Arts and traveled the world cooking for kings, royal families, political leaders, and powerful businessmen. He worked from the Waldorf Astoria to the Arlington in Hot Springs. He was inducted into the American Academy of Chefs in 1987. He was named ?Chef of the Year? by the Arkansas Chefs Association for many years. His culinary talents have been featured in magazines and papers across America.
A memorial service of his life will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Otter Creek Assembly of God Church, 9415 Stagecoach Road, Little Rock. Visitation immediately following.
