Jimmy Carl Manus Sr., 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 13, 2024. He was born on Sunday, July 13, 1941, to the late Loren Elmer Manus and Jessie Catherine Hickman in Morrilton, Arkansas. At the age of 16, God blessed him with a bonus family when Alfred and Lucille Mullings opened their hearts and home, and he became one of their treasured children and they became his beloved “Mom and Pop.” On November 19, 1966, he married the love of his life, Barbara McInvale, and they enjoyed 57 loving years of marriage together.
He was a sharpshooter in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Baumholder, Germany, from 1963-1965. Upon his return from deployment, he received the Good Conduct Medal for honorable and faithful service. After he was discharged from the Army, he began working at Moody Equipment. While there, he met Barbara’s uncle Luther Burks who introduced the two of them. Shortly after they married, he began a career at Safeway Warehouse that spanned over 30 years. He had a love for antiques and enjoyed collecting clocks, Coca-Cola memorabilia, saws, and various other items. His most admirable trait was his sense of humor and quick wit. If you were being teased by him, you knew that he truly loved you. He was a devoted member of Cornerstone Church of the Nazarene, and his greatest joy was being a faithful servant in his church’s food pantry for several years, where he gained a slew of friends that became his family.
He had a servant’s heart and was lovingly known as the “trash man”. In June 2022, he received the Distinguished Service Award, alongside his wife, for his dedication to the church and his willingness to serve others.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Lois Lawrence, Fay Speer, and Mary Jean Nelon, and brother Sam Mullings.
He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Manus, son Jimmy (Jill) Manus, daughter Nichole (Dave) Peak; granddaughters Kaitlyn (Wesley) Adams, Josie (Christian) Lindskog, Haley Holmes, Lauren (Brandus) Howard, and Emily Manus; great grandchildren Jasper Lindskog, Noah, Liam, and Zola Howard; sisters Frances Ross, Nancy Ashley, Seretha Young, and LaVern Clithero; sister-in-law Billie Jean Small, and his beloved cat Jack.
He delighted in inviting people into his family, and he is also survived by numerous bonus children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren that he loved dearly.
“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant…” Matthew 25:21
