Jimmie Cates

Jimmie Dee Cates, age 82 of North Little Rock, passed away on August 9, 2015.

Jimmie was born March 13, 1933 in Amity, AR to Winnie and Audrey Cates. He grew up in Amity and joined the Navy in 1951. In the Navy, Jimmie served his Country in the Korean War, earning the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Three Star Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, and receiving the rank of Electrician's Mate Second Class, USN-1. During his service, Jimmie became interested in the electrical profession and earned his electrical license in 1959; he operated his own residential electric company, J.D. Cates Electric, for 50 years.
Jimmie was a hard worker, a jack-of-all-trades, and a lover of children. He was generous and tirelessly served others. He accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized at the Daisy Church of Christ; he was a member of Sylvan Hills Church of Christ. It was in Daisy, AR where he rebuilt his pride and joy, an 1800's log cabin. There, he spent many weekends fishing and visiting with family and friends. Fried catfish and homemade ice cream, cranked by Jimmie Dee Cates, were always on the menu.
Jimmie met his bride, Marie Mack Cates of Kirby, AR, while square dancing and their dance together continued for 56 years. Jimmie Dee Cates was "one of a kind" and will be greatly missed.

Jimmie Dee Cates is survived by his wife, Marie, his son Chad, daughter Sonya and her husband David McFatrich; grandchildren Luke, Elle-Marie, and Samara McFatrich; his sister Ann Kelly of Arkadelphia, AR; brother Johnny and his wife, Joanna Cates, of North Little Rock; cousins, nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, August 17, 2015 at Huson Funeral Home Chapel in Sherwood, with the family receiving friends on Monday, from 10:45 a.m. until the time of the service.
