Jewell French

Jewell "LaVerne" French, 82, of McRae, Arkansas, was born April 3, 1929, at McRae, to Noble and Jewell (Gilbert) Wisdom, and she passed away Monday, July 18, 2011. She retired from Safeway Stores, Inc., and was a longstanding active member of McRae First Baptist Church. She loved to travel and did so extensively in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. LaVerne was also an avid crafter and reader and was a volunteer in the White County Medical Center gift shop.
She is survived by her son, Gilbert Neal French and wife Pat of Martinez, California; daughter, Pamela Marlene French of McRae; three grandchildren, Alfred Neal Hibler, Michelle Rene Nesbitt and Deacon Lee French; five great-grandchildren, Christian, Jacob, Drew, Paul and Kaitlin; brother, Bunny Lee Wisdom of Baytown, Texas; and sister Dixie McAfee and husband Paul of Beebe; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin of fifty-four years, and her parents.
Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2011, at McRae First Baptist Church, with burial in Lebanon Cemetery.
