Jesse Johnson

Jesse Lee Johnson, 95 of North Little Rock, passed away March 5, 2010 in Conway. He was born December 4, 1914 in Greenbrier, AR, the son of Tommy Johnson and Amy Thompson Johnson.
Jesse was a retired heavy equipment operator for Minnesota Mining, and was a highly decorated veteran of the United States Army 96th Division for WWII. He fought in the campaign of Okinawa and Lahti in the Philippine Islands, and received two bronze stars and a Purple Heart for his courageous service. Jesse was also a long time member of Levy Baptist Church. He loved gardening, hunting, and was a serious bee keeper.
He is preceded in death by his first wife Lola F. Johnson, his parents, brothers Harold and Earl, and sisters Tressie, Myrtle, and Lida. Survivors include a wife Ruth Welch Johnson of Sherwood; son Tommy Johnson and wife Lavon of North Little Rock; granddaughter Mandy Farr and husband Steve and great grandson Austin Farr; a step-daughter Jane Bryant and husband Raymond of Altheimer, AR; sister Ina Fulmer of Conway; and several nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Levy Baptist Church with Rev. Steven Tiner and Rev. Al Sparkman officiating. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Conway.
Pallbearers are Joe Lacy, Gary Brazear, Hancel Keeton, Robert Jackson, Jim Dancy, and Don McGee. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, March 8, 2010 at Levy Baptist Church, under the direction of Huson Funeral Home in Sherwood.
