Jerry Michael Smith, 68, of Little Rock, died on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at UAMS in Little Rock. Jerry was born on April 5, 1951 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, the son of Howard and Sammye Smith of Corning, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Smith, of Little Rock; his sister, Ruth Ann Smith, of Hot Springs; his brother, James Howard Smith, of Little Rock; and his aunt, Glendola Flanigan, of Fayetteville, Arkansas. He is also survived by a number of cousins and many close friends, all of whom he dearly loved.

Jerry grew up in Corning, where he was the quarterback of the Corning Bobcats. He also loved playing on all the other sports teams offered in Corning, especially the basketball team. After graduating from Corning High School in 1969, Jerry attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where he graduated in 1973.

He loved the outdoors and was an avid deer hunter and duck hunter. He remained a big fan of the Razorback football and basketball teams all of his life. He also loved going to Ft. Worth to attend NASCAR events with his best friend, Jerry Urbani and his brother-in-law, John Gaston. He also loved vacationing in Florida, Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs and anywhere near water.

For ten years, Jerry was Plant Manager of Elixir Industries, a Little Rock aluminum company. In 1992, he and a partner, Bill Tedder, formed a company of their own called Sources, Inc. After Mr. Tedder died, Jerry went to work for Arkansas Social Security Disability where he served as an adjudicator for Social Security claimants.

Jerry was united in marriage to his wife of 31 years, Brenda (Gaston) Smith, on October 10, 1987. He was an active and faithful member of Faith United Methodist Church in Little Rock. A wonderful, loving husband, family was very important to him. Jerry was a hardworking and humble man. He was a strong influence on many lives. Jerry was a true Southern gentleman. He will be remembered for so much, but most of all for being a loving and devoted husband, brother and friend.

Services will be Saturday, May 4 at 10:30 a.m., preceded by visitation beginning at 9:30, at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.). Rev. David Hoffman will officiate. Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Alexander. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, 9820 W. Markham, Little Rock, AR 72205.
