Jerry Artie Miller, 84, of Little Rock, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on January 8, 2017. In death, Jerry is reunited with his beloved wife of almost fifty years, June Kittler Miller, and his parents, Artie and Ardath Miller.
Jerry is survived by his children, Randy (Nancy) Miller, Brent (Tandy) Miller, and Sandra Miller, his grandchildren, Lauren (Will) Ballard, Andrew Miller, Emily Miller, and Ashley Miller, all of Little Rock. He is also survived by his beloved granddogs Simon, Heidi, Sam, Zoey and Lacie.
Jerry was born on July 27, 1932 to Artie and Ardath Miller in Brinkley, Arkansas. After graduating from Brinkley High School in 1950, Jerry earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business and Education from Arkansas State Teachers College (UCA) in 1954 and a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Arkansas in 1957.
Following his education, Jerry taught at Forest Heights Junior High and took much joy in seeing former students around Little Rock. He then worked as a counselor, supervisor, and administrator at Arkansas Rehab Services for 40 years. Jerry was also a vocational expert with the Social Security Administration's Office of Hearings and Appeals. He then became administrator of the Arkansas Kidney Disease Commission.
Jerry enjoyed spending time with dear friends, listening to music, hunting for treasures at estate sales, and rooting for the Arkansas Razorbacks. He loved spending time with his family, especially summertime vacations to Navarre and Pensacola Beach where he looked forward to the trips to Publix and Joe Patti's. Jerry had an incurable sweet tooth and a giant soft spot for his dogs. He was a long time member of St. Luke's Methodist Church.
The family extends a special thanks to the staff of Briarwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dr. Mark Pippenger, and his nurse Donna LeBlanc for providing love and care for Jerry. The family is also thankful to Dr. Harold Hutson and his wife, Bonnie, who blessed Jerry and his family with many years of love and friendship.
Honorary Pallbearers are the Brinkley High School Class of 1950, Jerry's St. Luke's Sunday School Class, Dr. Harold Hutson, Dennis Satterfield, Larry Beckius, Blake Harrison, Dr. Paul Burton, Chris Huey, Bill Farquhar and Roy Dudley.
