Jerry Helms

Jerry E. Helms, age 78, of Royal, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2023.

He was born on May 17, 1944, in Littlefield, Texas, the son of Herman Henry Helms and Shirley Lorene Sandford Helms.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Charlotte Elmira Helms and Janice Rose Boydston; and two brothers, Kenneth Herman Helms and Dale Laroy Helms.

Jerry was a United States Navy veteran and worked as a truck driver for J.B. Hunt before retiring.  During his time as a truck driver, he had received the One Million Mile Safety Award. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Sharion Helms; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry Todd and Tawaynia Helms and Timothy Lee and Janice Helms; three grandchildren, Zachary William Helms, Nicholas Drew Helms and Christina Marie Helms; three step-grandchildren, Rebekah Cherise Blackwood, Stephanie Suzann Lowery and Joseph Aaron Lowery; five step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Annette Wolfe; nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 10, 2023, with Bro. Dennis Anderson officiating in the Smith Family Funeral Home Chapel, Hot Springs.

Interment will be in the Peak Cemetery.

Visitation will be 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Tuesday, prior to the service.
