Jerry Currence, 56, beloved husband, father, and friend of many departed this life on October 8, 2015. He is survived by his wife Kelly Estes Currence, his three children Jacob, Kate, and Jack and his mother Betty Currence Walden of Broken Bow, OK. His father E.E. "Woody" Currence and brother Jimmy Dale Currence preceded him in death.
Jerry was born in Dequeen AR. After moving to Little Rock he attended McClellan High School and graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where he studied architecture and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Jerry was loved by all who met him. He was a man's man. He loved riding his Harley in Colorado, fishing for Salmon in Alaska, duck hunting with his good buddies, snow skiing with his family, and driving his Porsche fast. He also had quite a culinary flair and enjoyed cooking for his family and friends.
Jerry was recognized early on for his outstanding architectural design ability at the University of Arkansas. Upon graduation he was awarded the Edward Durrell Stone Medal which was given to the graduate which produced the most outstanding design projects throughout their college career. After graduating college he went to work for what is now known today as TAGGART/Architects where he was president and co-owner of the firm. Jerry was Principle in Charge of the design department and was responsible for the design of many highly recognized projects in Arkansas and twenty six other states. Some of his most notable design collaborations included Verizon Arena, Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality, St Vincent Hospital, White County Medical Center, North and South Campuses of Pulaski Technology College, Argenta Community Theatre, and the new Arkansas State Fair Masterplan. Jerry also designed over twenty acute care hospitals across the country for Continental Medical Systems and Select Medical Corporation. Jerry's success was not solely based on his outstanding design ability. He had a unique ability to listen and engage his clients in realizing their building project goals which led to long lasting personal and professional relationships.
Jerry was also very active in the community. He served on the Pulaski Technical College Foundation Board, the Board of Directors Executive Committee for the Friends of the Arts, Argenta Arts Foundation, Advisory Board of Art Connection, and was a founding member of Arkansas Innovation Center. He was also a member of Pulaski Heights Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm at Pulaski Heights Methodist Church in Little Rock. Following will be a Celebration of Life Reception at Argenta Community Theatre in North Little Rock.
