Jean Kaye Converse Rapp passed away November 26, 2020 in Conway, AR following her decline from Alzheimerâs disease. She is survived by son Jeffrey Rapp, MD (Kimberly) of Boyce, LA and daughter Amy Hudson, MD (Stephen) of Conway, AR Also surviving are two brothers: James Converse, PhD of Youngstown, OH and Roger Converse of Salem, OH, and three sisters: Sue Hahn of Leetonia, OH, Sally Moran of Lisbon, OH, and Judy Schaefer of Oregonia, OH. Preceding her in death were Jean's parents, brother Philip Converse, and sister Pat Settlemyre.
Jean was born April 30, 1942 in Leetonia, OH, second daughter and third of 8 children to Beulah Bell Converse and Curney Converse. She grew up on the family farm, graduated as valedictorian of her high school class, and graduated from Ohio State University in 1964 with a degree in Social Work.
She married Donald Rapp in 1963, had two children together, and was actively involved with âkid activitiesâ as a stay-at-home mom, moving from Virginia to Indiana, and then Mississippi over the years for her husbandâs career with the U.S. Geological Survey. Jean completed a second bachelorâs degree (in Computer Science) when their son and daughter were young adults, and she worked for the remainder of her career as a computer scientist for U.S. Naval Research Laboratory.
Jean enjoyed many hobbies and talents over her lifetime, including sewing, needle crafts, pottery, teaching art classes, volunteering at school activities, and especially loved cooking for family, friends, and neighbors. Her life was enriched by many happy occasions with the Dennis Penton family over the years. She will be remembered for her love and nurturing of others and her delight in silliness and laughter with family and friends.
