Jean Munger

Jean C. Munger, born March 2, 1928 in Wayne County, Indiana to Charles R. and Effie Wright Chaney, passed away July 23, 2017 at the age of 89. High school valedictorian and newspaper editor, she also attended Antioch College in Yellow Springs, OH graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in secondary/business education. Jean then worked for Harpers Publishing Company in Manhattan, the League of Women Voters of Ohio in Dayton and the Dayton Council on World Affairs through which she met her husband of 53 years, Robert D. Munger.

Married in 1955, Jean devoted her time and talents to loving and selfless support of her family, raising 4 children actively involving them in tennis lessons, ball games and church youth activities. Jean also helped with Scouting, school volunteering, being a PTA officer and serving with her husband's company, Southern Asphalt Roofing Corporation, as vice president, assistant secretary, treasurer and a member of the board of directors. Once Jean's children were grown, she began working as an Executive Assistant for Governor Frank White serving as a liaison to several commissions and writing speeches. Jean was a lifelong active church member, active with Second Presbyterian Church since 1975. For most of Jean's adult life, she was an active tennis player earning state and club championships.

Preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert Daniel Munger, she is survived by her daughters, Carol Jones (Dr. Bruce Jones) of Jonesboro, Melissa Moore (Rev. David Moore) and Marjorie Watkins, both of Little Rock; son, Robert T. Munger of Springdale; grandchildren, Daniel Jones (Andrea), Christopher Jones (Ashley), Elizabeth Norris (Thomas), David, Matthew and John Michael Lee, Sarah Ceja (Sergio), Gregory Watkins, and Emily and Audrey Munger; 6 great-grand children and dear friend, Robert (Bob) Jesberg.

Services will be held on Wednesday, July 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Second Presbyterian Church officiated by Rev. Steve Hancock, with a reception to follow. Memorials may be made to Second Presbyterian Church's Youth Scholarship Fund or to LifeQuest of Arkansas at 600 Pleasant Valley Drive, Little Rock, AR 72227.
