Merlyn Jean Jacobs Corbitt went to be with her Lord and Saviour on January 2, 2021 at age 94. She was a loving mother to nine children. She lived her final years in the home of the Manchack family in East End. We are forever grateful for the unselfish love and care given her by Janice (the baby girl) and her husband David as well as their five children. May they be abundantly rewarded for their loving attention.

Jean was born February 13, 1926 in Garfield, Washington to Irma Margaret (Haight) Jacobs and Hugh Reynolds Jacobs. She was a graduate of International Bible College in San Antonio, Texas in 1954. She married Orville Allen Corbitt on November 27, 1954. Their marriage of nearly fifty years produced nine children.

These children begat children by the dozens.    Three dozen grand children, plus spouses, and an even dozen great grandchildren, and counting . . .

Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Orville Allen Corbitt, and son Tim Corbitt, two brothers Vincel  and K Jacobs and a sister, Gloria Atteberry. She also had three siblings who did not survive early childhood, Marjorie Eleanor Jacobs, Donald Dean Jacobs and Hugh Reynolds Jacobs Jr.. She is survived by two sisters, Faith Lawrence and Betty Carey of Oregon. She loved them dearly. Her survivors also include eight children, almost fifty grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Jean’s interests centered around God, her family, including her church family and a few good friends.  She enjoyed bird watching and was a gifted writer of poetry and stories. Her writings included a column “Potpourri” in a paper “The Redfield Update”, that was distributed around the world, no doubt because everyone couldn’t wait to read her latest musings. She wrote about whatever she found interesting at the time, and often what she found interesting was her children. They were simultaneously, locally famous and embarrassed.

Jean’s best writing, however wasn’t done with a pen. It was the story of her life and it was told through her daily living. It was a beautiful life, we are thankful to have been a part of it.
