Jean Charles

Jean Charles, 81, of Little Rock, passed away March 5, 2012. She was born in Hope, Arkansas to Gus and Gladys Woolsey Hawthorne. She graduated from the Baptist School of Nursing in 1951 and worked at Baptist Hospital until 1980; then worked at the VA at Fort Roots until 1992. After the VA, she worked at the Baptist School of Nursing in Archives until 2009. She was also very involved in the Alumni Association.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Tom Charles and her brother, George Hawthorne, she is survived by her daughter, Cindy Switzer and husband, Robert and granddaughter, Hannah Switzer, all of Rogers; and sisters-in-law, Helen Pettit of Illinois and Earlene Hawthorne of Mt. Pine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Wednesday, March 7 at 2:00 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), officiated by Chaplain Hope Coleman, followed by interment at Rest Hills Memorial Park in Sherwood. Visitation will be this evening, Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Baptist Health Foundation, 9601 I-630, Exit 7, Little Rock, AR 72205. Please designate donations to the RN Scholarship Fund.
