Jasper Lafayette (J.J.) Garner Jr. went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 3, 2009. He was born in Amity on May 7, 1927 to Jasper Lefett (Jack) and Bertha Ann Craig Garner. He retired from the Corps of Engineers at DeGray Lake Field Office, was a Veteran of World War II, Serving in the U.S. Army 31st Air Service Group, A member of the Masonic Lodge 381, a Charter Member of the VFW local post, and the Woodmen of the World.
He is survived by his loving wife, Emma Jean Patterson whom he had just celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary on July 31. He was a loving father to Martha Garner and (husband) Woody May, Jimmy and (wife) Leigh Anne Garner of Vicksburg, MS, Grandchildren Shannon and Lee Ledbetter of Bryant, Lance and Andrea Garner, Toby Garner, and Craig May, all of Arkadelphia; Christopher and Jennifer Truitt of Vicksburg, MS. The highlight of his day was getting to play with his great-grandchildren, Austin and Ethan Ledbetter of Bryant; Colton and Avery Garner of Arkadelphia; Jaiden Garner of Friendship, and Christyn Truitt of Vicksburg, MS. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Wilma Ruth and Jimmy Gonzales of Foresthill, CA; one sister-in-law Maxine Darden of Urbana, AR, and a host of cousins, 3 nieces, 4 nephews and many friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, twin infant brothers, his sister Ina Lee (Ann) and brother-in-law Steve Laucirica; one niece Marlene McWayne; one nephew Robert Darden.
Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in the Ruggles - Wilcox Chapel, with Rev. Greg Latham Officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Ruggles - Wilcox Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Lance and Toby Garner, Craig May, Lee Ledbetter Charles Rogers, Donald Treadway, Bruce Patterson, and Danny Cogburn. Honorary Pallbearers are Christopher Truitt, Johnny Cummins, Maurice Hancock, Bobby Garner, Claudie Beard, Tommy Cook, and Dr. Mike Ford. Memorials may be made to the Third Street Baptist Church building fund.
