James “Greg” Dempsey: Soldier, Instructor, Husband, Dad, Friend, Mentor, and Papa. Born February 18, 1958, in Omar West Virginia. He had no idea how much he would mean to so many people. He excelled in football enough to have a full ride scholarship to college. However, he decided to join the Army, where he proudly served 26 years. During his career he was stationed in Germany, Alabama, Florida, Texas, Arkansas, and Alabama again. He started out in Artillery, but soon discovered his interest in bomb disposal where he again excelled. He was one of the first two EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) Sergeant’s to be selected to become Drill Sergeants.
Greg retired from the Army at the highest enlisted rank of Sergeant Major. He then went on to work at Redstone Arsenal as an instructor at the EOD training school in 2002, where he instructed until 2015.
During his life he had many interests: racing motor cross, computers, piloting, scuba diving and sky diving (where he met his wife). Shortly after retiring he rediscovered his love for riding motorcycles. Where he also became an instructor of motorcycle safety and awareness.
He was a proud father to his older son, Adam, Adam’s wife Angel, and their daughter Ashlynn. Daughter Adina, her husband Trey, and their children, Trent, Jayden and Amaya. Youngest son; Brent and his daughter Katie.
He was a wonderful husband, friend, instructor, and mentor. He had many titles during his life and felt very blessed. The thing he was most proud of was to be called Papa by all his grandchildren.
Above all he learned by teaching and taught what he loved. He never halfheartedly did anything.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 11 from 9:30-11:30AM at Camp Robinson Chapel with committal following at 12:00 at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
