James Richard Yarbrough, Sr., age 89, of Ward, Arkansas, was born September 14, 1920 at Martinsville, Virginia, to Richard Hartwell Yarbrough and Mary Fannie Turner, and died on November 11, 2009. He was a retired Navy Chief who served twenty-seven years in service of his country. After retiring, he went to vocational school (ASTI of Beebe) to learn small engine repair and opened a repair shop working on lawn mowers and tractors. Also, along with his wife Inez Yarbrough, he planted numerous pear trees throughout Ward. His most passionate pastime was golf, where on a few occasions he made a hole-in-one.
He is survived by one daughter, Jammie Carr of San Diego, California; one son, James Richard Yarbrough, Jr. of Millington, Tennessee; one brother; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two on the way.
Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Wednesday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
