James Monroe Waddle, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 15, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on March 29, 1942, in Saline County, Arkansas, James led a life dedicated not only to hard work but also to the love and support he provided to those around him.
James spent many years in construction and maintenance, where he poured concrete and earned a reputation for being a reliable and skilled worker. His dedication to his craft was matched only by his devotion to his family. A strong, loyal, and honest man, James was always at the beckon call of his loved ones, ready to lend a hand day or night. His focus on ensuring that everyone around him was well-fed and taken care of reflects the warmth of his character.
Many fond memories of James will be cherished by his family, who envision him now in heaven alongside his grandson, happily smoking meat and preparing meals for loved ones while listening to his favorite bluegrass gospel music. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, often engaging with them in playful activities such as "Crawlie Bug," filling their hearts with laughter and joy.
James graduated from Paron High School in 1959, laying the groundwork for a life filled with meaningful relationships and experiences. His proudest accomplishment was his family, whom he adored unconditionally. They, in turn, responded with the same love and dedication, holding him in the highest regard. He was an exceptional father to Jamie Michelle Red and husband Darren, Kevin Gene Waddle, and Alisha Gayle Waddle. As a grandfather, he treasured time spent with Brittney Bardsley and husband Brandon, Schantz Red, Kaleigh Bailey, Lauren Runyan and husband Brady, Tyler Bailey, and Alexis Chavez, along with indulging his great-grandchildren Whitleigh Red, Aubree Runyan, Avery James Red, and Genesis Runyan.
James is also survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Barbara Jean (Abbott) Waddle; his sisters, Lois Gentry, Betty Childress and husband Jerry Don, and Cleva Butler and husband Cecil; and a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Timothy and Ruby (Goodnight) Waddle; his grandson, Brandon Red; his brother, Melvin Cleo Waddle and wife Jean; and his brother-in-law, Sam Gentry.
