James Edgar Thweatt, died October 15, 2011. He was born in Paris, Mississippi to Ina Barber and Edgar Talmadge Thweatt on October 2, 1922. He grew up in Clarksdale, MS on the now famous Hopson Plantation. He graduated from Clarksdale High School and Holmes Jr. College. He served in the 487th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force during World War II. He retired from Colgate-Palmolive Company after 42 years, garnering many honors for his outstanding work. He was an active member of Pulaski Heights Baptist Church, having served as a Sunday School teacher and Deacon.
He is survived by two sons, James Talmadge Thweatt (Marilyn) of Benton, Robert Thompson Thweatt of Baton Rouge; one daughter, Sarah Sue "Sally" (Brandon) Patterson of Little Rock; one grandson, Zachary Patterson of Little Rock; one granddaughter, Jennifer (Curtis) Carter, and great-grandchildren, Abigail, Elizabeth, and Jonathan Carter of Benton; sister, Margie Hubbard of Louisville, MS. He is predeceased in death by his wife of 57 years, Sue Thompson Thweatt, parents, and brother, William Elroy Thweatt of Cleveland, MS and grandson, Wesley Gene Thweatt.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 18 at Pulaski Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Randy Hyde officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the services in the Church Parlor starting at10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pulaski Heights Baptist Church, 2200 Kavanaugh Blvd., Little Rock, AR 72205. Private Inurnment with Military Honors will be at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
