James Smith

James D. "Pete" Smith, age 83, of Arkadelphia, died Friday, July 15, 2011. He was born January 18, 1928, the son of the late Vance Sr. and Ruth Joslin Smith. Pete was a retired electrician, a member of Third Street Baptist Church and a 32nd Degree Mason. The passion of his life was his family, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Annie Lee Hickman, Darnell Collins, Barbara Marion; two brothers, Carl Smith and R. V. Smith.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-seven years, Mary Ellen Cook Smith; one daughter, Marsha Shifflett and husband, Jimmy of Texas; three sons, Steve Smith and wife, Lisa of Malvern, Danny Smith of Friendship and Mike Howell of Texas; ten grandchildren, Cory LeBlanc, Laura Graham, Amber Feemster, Chris Smith, Jason Smith, Melissa Smith, Shannon Pritchard, Derek Smith, Josh Terry and Jacob Terry; thirteen great-grandchildren; five brothers, Earl Smith, Vance Smith Jr., Freddy Smith, Mickey Smith and James
David Smith; and three sisters, Bobbie Eubanks, Ruthie Fulmer and Lois Kinard all of Arkadelphia.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday , July 21st at Third Street Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Latham officiating. Burial will be in Golden Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Wednesday at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Third Street Baptist Church.
