James “Jim” Arthur Payseno, III, a beloved figure in the Maumelle community, passed away on April 10, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on October 3, 1948, in Tacoma, Washington, James lived a life characterized by dedication to his family and unwavering commitment to service.
Jim had a distinguished career as a Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor at the Rancho Seco Nuclear Power Plant in Sacramento, California, where he dedicated many years of his life before retiring from the Sacramento Municipality Utility District (S.M.U.D.) after 30 years of service in Nuclear, Hydro Power, and Gas Pipeline sectors. His professional journey was marked by his technical expertise and leadership, contributing significantly to the energy sector.
A proud veteran, Jim served in the United States Navy for four years, an experience that helped shape his values of discipline and service. He moved to Maumelle in 2006 to be closer to his family, quickly becoming an integral part of the local community. His selfless spirit earned him the title of Citizen of the Year in Maumelle in 2019, recognizing his extensive volunteer work and dedication to enhancing the lives of those around him.
Jim was actively engaged in community service as a Board Member of the Maumelle Veterans Memorial and the Counting on Each Other Non-Profit, deeply invested in causes that resonated with him. He was also celebrated for his role as Santa Claus during the holidays, bringing joy and laughter to families in the area. Affectionately known as "Poppa Jim," he was fondly called "Mr. Fix-it" by friends and family, always ready with a helping hand or a listening ear. His warm, generous nature made him a loyal friend to many, and he was loved and respected by all who knew him.
In addition to his community involvement, Jim was an enthusiastic Oakland Raiders fanatic and a massive Coca-Cola collector. His passion for life extended to the excitement of drag racing, where he proudly spent time on the pit crew. Thursday game nights with friends were a cherished tradition, showcasing his ability to build strong, lasting relationships.
Jim is survived by his loving daughter, Alicia Payseno, and his cherished grandchildren, Shayla Dixon Burgess (Alex), Nicole Payseno, and Julia Payseno. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Alfie Burgess, playing an essential role in their lives. His family included a sister-in-law, Tammy Payseno, along with nephews Kenneth and Joseph Payseno, and a stepson, Grant Neal. Included in his family are his best friends Angie and Steve Howanietz, who shared many treasured moments with him.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruth Payseno, and his brother, Bill Payseno. His legacy of kindness, generosity, and dedication will always be remembered by those he touched.
Visitation will be held on April 16, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home (1921 Main Street). Jim will be laid to rest at Riverwood Memorial Gardens in Maumelle at 3:30 PM.
His enduring spirit and love for others will continue to inspire those who knew him, and he will be profoundly missed.
