James S. Lloyd, 93, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2009. Born in Greene County, Arkansas on October 17, 1915 to the late Samuel and Lecter Ann Hoadley Lloyd, Jim was raised in a Christian home and provided that same environment for his children. As a young adult, he led the choir in a mission church that he helped sponsor. Jim was a member and a deacon of Park Hill Baptist Church, and assumed many other roles of church life. The Park Hill Heartstrings band, where he played the Hawaiian guitar, was his favorite activity in recent years.
After completing a year at Arkansas State College, Jim had two careers. He was a bookkeeper for 20 years, then an employer relations representative with the Employment Security Division. He spent many hours both on the golf course and fishing. When he retired, he and his wife Norma traveled extensively. A creative man, he added woodworking and oil painting to his hobbies. For many years he kept fit by swimming at the North Little Rock Hayes Center.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Mary Lloyd, and by his sister Tennie Barnhill of Paragould. He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Norma O. Lloyd of North Little Rock, and a sister, Eulagene Staten of Paragould. He leaves a daughter, Cheryl Fallis of North Little Rock, son and wife Larry and Vickey Lloyd of Fayetteville, plus four grandchildren; Darren Fallis of Cary, North Carolina, Anna Lloyd of Little Rock, Erin Lloyd of Austin, Texas, and Adam Lloyd of Fayetteville. He will be greatly missed, but his family rejoices that he is now with the Lord.
The family will receive guests Monday, March 9, from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. at the North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St. A memorial service led by Dr. Ken Shaddox will be at Park Hill Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 10 at 1 P.M., followed by interment at Rest Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Park Hill Baptist Church.
