James Lane

Jim Lane of Sherwood, Arkansas, born August 4, 1936, in Floyd (White County) Arkansas to Nancy Adeline Reedy Lane and James Remmel Lane, died on January 3, 2011. On February 2, 1963, he married Dora Nell Brizzell at the Washington Avenue Methodist Church of North Little Rock, Arkansas. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve on March 3, 1954, at Little Rock, Arkansas and served in the reserve until retirement on August 4, 1996. He retired at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer-4. He served as a Military Personnel Officer and was awarded the Legion of Merit upon retirement. He was employed by the U.S. Government Civil Service for 29 years and retired in 1993 while serving as the Command Executive Officer of the 95th Training Support Brigade at Camp Pike Armed Forces Reserve Center, North Little Rock. The Rev. Aaron F. Barling baptized him into the Christian faith and he joined the United Methodist Church in 1962 at the age of 26. He was honored to be elected as a part of the North Arkansas Conference delegation to five General Conferences and five South Central Jurisdictional Conferences. Also, he was the first North Arkansas Conference lay member of the 1996 General Conference in Denver, Colorado where he delivered the Laity Address. He served as the Conference Lay Leader of the North Arkansas Conference from 1993 to 2000. He was President of the National Association of Annual Conference Leaders in 1996 and served for two years. In 1980 he joined Levy United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School and served in many capacities including church lay leader.
He was predeceased by his parents, James and Nancy Adeline Reedy Lane, his brother James Kenneth Lane, his sister Allene Lane Westnedge and his wife of 47 years, Nell Lane. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Mildred D. Lane, his nephews; Richard Westnedge, James R. Lane II, Robert O. Anderson (Linda) and James E. Anderson (Faye) and his nieces; Patricia Mann (Mark), Nancy Lane Hall, Karen Lane Peyton and Lee Nell (Eddie) Brewer.
Memorials may be made to North Little Rock First United Methodist Church, 6701 John F. Kennedy Blvd., North Little Rock, Arkansas 72116.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday at North Little Rock First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Rest Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St., 758-1170. Online obituary and guest registry at www.nlrfh.com.
